2022 WordPress Results

$51-100/Month Summary

Presslabs had the fastest login cumulative average and second fastest wp-login, p95, page response times on the Load Storm test. Presslabs had perfect and near perfect uptime. Presslabs had the second fastest WPT average response times. It's always a good sign when you're using the word fastest a lot when analyzing these results - A Top Tier performance from Presslabs.

$25-50/Month Summary

Presslabs had the fastest login cumulative average, as well as the second fastest P95, Page and wp-login on the Load Storm test. Presslabs had perfect and near perfect uptime. Presslabs had the third fastest WPT average response time. Throw in an excellent Static test and there's very little left to desire from their performance. A well deserved and earned Top Tier performance for Presslabs.

$201-500/Month Summary

Presslabs had the fastest P95, Page, Asset and login response times on the Load Storm test. Presslabs had the second fastest average response time and third fastest p95 on the static test. Throw in perfect or near perfect uptime. Presslabs also went 12/12 as the fastest location for every test on WebPageTest. Overall, a very impressive performance put on Presslabs which saw them at the top or near the top of every test. Top Tier.

Enterprise ($500+/Month) Summary

Presslabs absolutely crushed the Load Storm test. They had the fastest P95, Page, Asset, and login times. Presslabs also had the third fastest average response time for the static test at 14ms. Throw in a tour de force of the WebPageTest benchmark where they were the fastest in 10/12 locations and had the fastest average response time. Sprinkle in perfect or near perfect uptime on both monitors and you've got yourself an excellent Top Tier worthy performance.

LoadStorm

Load Storm is designed to simulate real users visiting the site, logging in and browsing. It tests uncached performance.

K6

K6 is designed to test cached performance by repeatedly requesting the homepage.

WebPageTest

WebPageTest fully loads the homepage and records how long it takes from 12 different locations around the world.

Uptime

Uptime is monitored by two companies: HetrixTools and Uptime Robot. A self hosted monitor was also run in case there was a major discrepancy between the two third party monitors.

WPPerformanceTester

WPPerformanceTester performs two benchmarks. One is a WordPress (WP Bench) and the other a PHP benchmark. WP Bench measures how many WP queries per second and higher tends to be better (varies considerably by architecture). PHP Bench performs a lot of computational and some database operations which are measured in seconds to complete. Lower PHP Bench is better. WP Bench is red in the chart, PHP Bench is blue.

2021 WordPress Results

$51-100/Month Summary

Presslabs has been a regular for many years on these benchmarks and this is the first time they didn't earn Top Tier marks that I can recall. Presslabs had excellent load tests, they were third fastest in WPT response times. The only problem was SSL renewal didn't go smoothly and caused some downtime which dropped them below 99.9% which is required to earn any awards. Overall, a solid product that continues to handle the tests well with one costly mistake this year.

$201-500/Month Summary

Presslabs has historically done very well in these tests. Presslabs put up excellent Load Test results in both Load Storm and K6. They were error free and excellent. The only thing that held this otherwise Top Tier performance back was an SSL certificate renewal issue which caused uptime to drop below the 99.9% level required to earn Top Tier status.

Enterprise ($500+/Month) Summary

Presslabs has been a regular at the Enterprise tier and I think this is the first time it didn't win Top Tier recognition. The highlight was probably the fact they were the only company to have 0 errors on both Load Storm and K6. Presslabs had the third fastest WP Bench. It had the fourth fastest WPT average. The only thing that held it back was the same bug across all tiers where the SSL certificate failed to renew properly and caused uptime to drop below the 99.9% threshold. One bug away from a Top Tier performance unfortunately.
